Prize for Hard work: Chika Unigwe receives the prestigious NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature

Nsukka is busy today from my Bishop Shanahan home quite close to the gate I noticed that there was a difference, it is Tuesday, 29th January and Chika Unigwe a Lioness (a UNN Alumna) was coming home to UNN all the way from Turnout, Belgium to be publicly presented with the award for best fiction in Nigeria for her book On Black Sister's Street, by the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas company.

It is billed for 9:00am and no African time, it did start at 9 because the presentation is live on NTA. It turned out a day many of us will look forward to being our day but without hard work it cannot happen and truly how many of us are working hard at what we are doing where there are so many shortcuts (or so it seems) to success. It was a day of reunion for many of us who knew Chika during her undergraduate days, her lecturers from the English Department  and even her English teacher from Bwari (FGGC) came and showered praises on her. Her family was led by her father and her Belgian Hubby Jan was there too.

for more stories on her award Google: CHIKA UNIGWE ...

Chika (middle) with her award and the Governor of Anambra State G. Peter Obi immediate on her  right, the rest are the NLNG crew .
